In 1993 Abbeyfeale were offered the opportunity to host Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh. This proved to be such an outstanding success, the committee were requested to also host the 1994 Fleadh Cheoil. With the experience gained from these two major events, the committee decided to organize their own Traditional Music Festival in 1995 . . . . . . And so Fleadh by the Feale was born.
The festival is held on the May Bank Holiday weekend each year; this year from May 3rd to 7th.
Now in 2018, we are planning our 24th consecutive festival with six members from 1993 still active on the committee today. It has been a wonderful journey. We have had the best traditional musicians, dancers, singers and storytellers from all across Ireland & further afield. We’ve had the best bands in Ireland at our Celebrity Concert each year during the Fleadh, groups such as the Kilfenora Ceili Band, Frankie Gavin & DeDanann, 4 Men & a Dog, Sharon Shannon, Dervish, Mary Black and many more.
While all the above events are taking place, we have traditional music in most of the local Bars. The committee provide 4 or 5 players for each sessions, which are happening in the afternoon & night. Many people just come to town for this marvellous free entertainment.
